Press Release

14 October 2023
The launch of a new children’s pop-up songbook book called ‘Preab sa Cheol’ will take place in Amharclann Ghaoth Dobhair on Saturday 21 October at 3pm.
The book is the first of its kind to be created in Ireland and was designed by sean-nós singer,
Doimnic Mac Giolla Bhríde, from Gaoth Dobhair. Róise Ní Bhaoill will officially launch it.

Known for his previous popular children’s song books Icí Picí and Polcaphonc, Doimnic also composed the accompanying songs for Preab sa Cheol, which are sung by children from the Donegal Gaeltacht. The paper engineering in the book was also made by Doimnic and Caomhán Ó Scolaí was the graphic designer.

Inside the book you will find seven likeable, funny and colourful pop-up characters and scenes. One is a very hungry crocodile, another is a pirate rowing his treasure-filled boat out to the Trí Mic Ó gCorra, and
there’s also a googly eyed chicken that won’t stop dancing. You’ll also find a little girl called Caitlín Nic Giolla Casú who loves playing instruments, and you can help her out by playing the pop-up kazoo that is built into the book! There are also songs and pop-ups about An Earagail, the Piobaire Mór, and the best job in the world when you grow up.

As an extra treat, there are easy but catchy dances to go along with all the songs, available on the books’ website. www.preabsacheol.ie The
children who sang the songs perform these moves to the songs on a set of videos. You will be dancing and singing along with them in no time, with
your friends at home or at school.

This is a book like no other. Not only will children love it but there’s a very high chance that parents and all the family will too. It is interactive fun for all the family. It’s also a great resource for schools and nurseries to help children learn through song and dance.
There are English translations at the back, which means families new to Irish can learn together in a fun way.

Everyone is welcome to come to the launch on Saturday 21st at Amharclann Gaoth Dobhair, 3pm, where there will be a fun-filled afternoon of songs, dances and pop-up books.
Visit www.preabsacheol.ie where you can buy the book in advance, and get a sneak preview of the fun.
